Porrim Maryam: Polymer Clay Figurine

Description

This is a polymer clay figurine I made of Porrim Maryam, one of the trolls in the popular webcomic Homestuck by Andrew Hussie. Both Porrim's body and base are made of Fimo, and her hair is viscose. Her piercings are 32-gauge gold wire. Her features and tattoos are painted with acrylic paint. Her base and eyes are coated with a high gloss finish to make them shine, and her lips, tattoos, and the (super artistic) Virgo symbol on her gown are coated with a satin finish for protection. Porrim is 1:24 scale, and she is 3 3/4" tall with her base and horns.

To borrow a quote from a congoer who admired her at Anime Midwest, Porrim is "like one of those old-school Booberella vampires," and that's exactly the look I was going for! Some might consider it as tired or unoriginal to give the seductive character a figure that just won't quit (wow, do people actually say that?), but I wanted to portray her as confident and unafraid to show off her various...assets. Besides, she is actually portrayed as having cleavage in the comic, and someone built like me (microboobs) isn't going to have cleavage, especially not in that style.

Porrim's halter top gown is black with green accents reminiscent of her jade blood and has a plunging neckline, a side slit to her mid- left thigh, and an angled hem. The green borders are an abstract representation of the Virgo symbol.

Unlike some representations that give her tattoos all along her arms and legs, I chose to give Porrim only the tattoos visible in the comic. As for her piercings, I normally apply any body jewelry before I bake a piece, but I've only ever done ear and navel piercings. For Porrim, I had to pierce the clay beforehand since all of her piercings were going over painted sections (lips and eyebrows). I did also give her a few no hole beads in green and gold for earrings, but you can't really see them under her hair. I also made her eyes from glow in the dark clay.

Porrim's hair is viscose, as mentioned previously. I attached it with Aleene's Tacky Glue, trimmed it, and styled it with rubbing alcohol. It is shorter in the front to frame her face and longer in the back. Her horns are attached over the hair with glue and a short length of wire to avoid any appearance of gluing hair around them.

The base is made of Fimo "stardust," a dark navy clay that looks almost black after baking and has silver glitter interspersed. I used a needle to press a grid pattern into the clay to make it look like a floor or a pedestal, and coated it with a high gloss finish. It is inlaid with the Virgo symbol and Porrim's name in English and troll letters. Porrim is glued to the base.

Porrim took me well over 5 hours to make, but I think you'll find she's well wo+rth it. ;)
